Sue Girard is a mixed media artist with strength in photography. She is a resident of Lake Oswego, where she has lived for 23 years.
As a child growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sue began her journey in art with oil on canvas in a garage studio built by her father. She also visited art museums in San Francisco as a young girl and went on to study Art in college. She has always been fascinated by and drawn to,impressionist painters.
As an artist, Sue was drawn to bright colors, which inspire creativity and imagination. Each time Sue finishes a piece of art, she is motivated to explore new techniques, whether in a collage, greeting cards, photography or encaustic.
She has also been a lifelong traveler, with a passion for seeing and experiencing all parts of the world. Her passion for travel has inspired Sue’s photography. She visited Southern India earlier this year where the photos from some of her encaustics were taken. She has traveled to The Philippines, Turkey, Greece, Europe, Vietnam, Costa Rica, and Egypt all offering photography opportunities of people from around the globe.
Sue’s work has been displayed and sold in many venues across the Portland Metro area such as: Beaverton City Hall, Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, Heaven and Earth, North Bank Gallery, Gresham Visual Arts Gallery and Village Gallery of Arts. In the fall 2006, Sue joined the Village Gallery of Arts to show and sell her work and to become involved in the Portland’s artist community. Sue immediately joined the board of directors and was elected President in 2008 and remained in office for the next two years.
In 2010, Sue was invited to join Portland Art Collective, a group of very talented women artists. She has participated in their annual show at Multnomah Village for the past two years.
